Experience the Future of Manufacturing

This year's Chicago Technology Days at the DMG MORI Chicago Solution Center in Hoffman Estates, IL from September 8-12 are all about Machining Transformation (MX).

DMG MORI is paving the way to a competitive future for its customers. The four pillars of the concept – Process Integration, Automation, Digital Transformation (DX) and Green Transformation (GX) – are an integral part of Chicago Technology Days. Highlights include three premieres, such as the US premiere of CELOS X, one of the focus topics during the event. The intuitive control system supports the latest developments in the digitization of machine tool manufacturing, for example in workshop-oriented programming or production monitoring. The world premiere of the turning center NLX 2500|700 2nd Generation, the optimized version of the successful predecessor, and the MGX 30/100 for precision grinding, premiering in the US market, represent the latest developments in machining technology. Further focus topics at the event include Aerospace & Space Excellence as well as Medical Excellence in the field of advanced machining of demanding components and Gear Cutting as a perfect example for process integration. With a career day on September 12, DMG MORI USA is explicitly targeting young professionals in the machine tool industry.

Machining Transformation (MX): Solutions for an Efficient and Resource-Saving Production

The challenge of remaining competitive is constantly increasing, as demands on quality, productivity and delivery reliability continue to rise. Machining Transformation (MX) enables DMG MORI customers to face this development in a more relaxed manner. The intelligent combination of integrated manufacturing processes, flexible automation solutions, end-to-end digitization and a consistent focus on energy-efficient production sets the course for sustainable and successful long-term economic development. DMG MORI presents this concept using practical examples. The 27 high-tech machines at the event include 5-axis machining centers and turn & mill centers for 6-sided complete machining. These technologies provide the perfect basis for carrying out further machining steps in a single clamping operation, such as grinding, gear cutting and in-process measuring. Eight manufacturing solutions, from the MATRIS light collaborative robot to robot-based workpiece handling like the Robo2Go and pallet handling such as the RPS 6, demonstrate the benefits of autonomous production: optimum machine utilization, even in unmanned shifts, as well as higher component quality, as manual clamping is no longer necessary. The digital portfolio includes CELOS X with SIEMENS or MAPPS, the complete networking of automated production, tool management and TULIP as a no-code platform for the intuitive creation of apps. As the first three pillars contribute to resource-saving production, they also contribute to the Green Transformation (GX). DMG MORI supports this fourth pillar with the GREENMODE. With up to twelve innovative hardware and software components this solution ensures greater efficiency in every operating state.

World Premiere: NLX 2500|700 2nd Generation – Turning Center of the Latest Generation

The NLX 2500|700 2nd Generation, a successor model to the successful universal turning center includes far-reaching optimizations in machine structure, control and various functionalities. The innovation leader has taken into account the requirements of today's markets and embedded the new model in the Machining Transformation (MX) concept. Process integration, Automation, Digital Transformation (DX) and Green Transformation (GX) are the main pillars of this concept with which DMG MORI is shaping the future of manufacturing. The NLX 2500|700 2nd Generation offers users with different requirements maximum flexibility and reliability in universal turning – now also with the SIEMENS control.  In addition to CELOS X on MAPPS, CELOS X is also available on a SINUMERIK ONE. The core characteristics of the high-performance NLX series – its stability and the associated precision – have been further improved. The aim is to reduce cycle times and increase machining quality. With these measures and the adaptation of high-torque turnMASTER spindles on the left and right, the NLX 2500|700 2nd Generation will continue to set standards in the productive heavy-duty machining of demanding workpieces. With a maximum turning diameter of ø 366 mm and a turning length of up to 705 mm, the NLX 2500|700 2nd Generation offers capacity for a very wide range of workpieces. The maximum bar capacity has been increased to ø 105 mm on both spindles, compared to ø 80 mm on the previous generation. The travel distances are 260 mm in the X-axis and 795 mm in the Z-axis. A travel distance of 120 mm (± 60 mm) in the Y-axis for off-center milling, drilling and other process steps with driven tools offers maximum flexibility.

The NLX 2500 2nd Generation offers users in key industries such as automotive and medical maximum flexibility in universal turning and heavy-duty machining.

USA Premiere: MGX 30/100 – New Standard in Precision Grinding

The MGX 30/100 sets a new standard in high-precision grinding. The cylindrical multi-process grinding machine is setting a new standard in flexibility and accuracy. It offers a swing diameter of 300 mm. The distance between centers is 1,000 mm. The table supports workpieces weighing up to 150 kg. and the grinding wheel measures up to 510 mm. With an output power of 7.5 kW, a maximum peripheral wheel speed of 2,700 m/min and a direct-drive type indexing table that enables continuous indexing at 0.0001° for the wheel head the MGX series offers the highest levels of efficiency and accuracy for OD/ID/taper and thread grinding – all of this in one clamping. A hydrostatic grinding spindle with no metallic contact allows to maintain the initial performance for a long time, and provide high rigidity and rotational accuracy from low speed to high speed. An optional multi-spindle wheel head offers even more processes in one clamping. It can be loaded with three spindles. Additionally, the turret layout can be selected from 13 patterns to meet various customer needs. Moreover, the MGX 30/100 contains a flexible automation system that includes Automated Mobile Robots (AMR), loaders, and various types of work stockers. The intuitive operation is facilitated by the ERGOline X interface, making it user-friendly.
