As an innovation-oriented complete supplier in machine tool construction, DMG MORI represents a comprehensive range of machines that are used in almost all areas of metalworking. The machined materials range from non-ferrous metals, steel and stainless steel, to high-strength alloys. The machines are also used in the processing of plastics, composite materials or even glass and diamond. The variety of manufacturing solutions means that DMG MORI CNC machines have been working reliably in all industries for decades. These include, in particular, key industries such as tool and mold making, the aerospace sector, medical technology and the semiconductor industry.

Purchasing the right CNC machine

DMG MORI’s broad portfolio is structured modularly so that customers can find individual and efficient production solutions at any time. Modern CNC controls enable convenient programming and user-friendly operation. The CNC machine manufacturer covers all key areas of technology: Versatile and productive turning centers and milling machines with high precision form the traditional basis of the range. The consistent, ongoing development of DMG MORI’s range of services has also led to the production of the ULTRASONIC and LASERTEC series for the machining of advanced materials. Manufacturing solutions for additive manufacturing and grinding complete the range of CNC machines.

  • Turning: from universal turning to 6-sided turn-milling
  • Milling: from 3-axis milling to 5-axis simultaneous machining
  • ULTRASONIC: ultrasonic machining of high-strength materials
  • LASERTEC: 30 years of expertise in laser precision machining
  • Additive manufacturing: metallic 3D printing in a powder bed or by means of a powder nozzle
  • Grinding: Finalize geometries with high precision and the best surfaces

Welcome to the world of machining

 DMG MORI Christmas greetings

CNC machine portfolio for technological diversity

Turning

With around 20 series, DMG MORI serves almost every segment of turning technology. Versatile universal lathes increase production capacities in every production, while innovative Turn & Mill machines enable 6-sided complete machining of the most demanding geometries. High-efficiency production lathes enable efficient series production. The lathes have state-of-the-art components, ranging from robust guideways or linear guides to powerful main and compact milling spindles to high-precision position measuring systems and complete cooling measures. In this way, DMG MORI ensures productive and precise production of complex workpieces.

Milling

CNC milling machines from DMG MORI have always set the standards in metalworking. They stand for the ultimate in performance, reliability, and absolute accuracy. The range of milling machines includes vertical milling machines for every workpiece size, horizontal machining centers for economical series production and universal machining centers for productive complete machining with 5 axes. In particular, 5-axis simultaneous machining as the supreme discipline of milling offers the greatest flexibility here, because it enables economical production of complex geometries.

ULTRASONIC

The ULTRASONIC machines from DMG MORI are based on the principle of ultrasonic machining. This involves simultaneous overlaying of the tool rotation with an axially oscillating movement in the high-frequency range as an additional active component for the material removal. This so-called piezoelectric effect is used to remove microparticles from the surface of the workpiece. The ULTRASONIC technology makes the machining of high-strength materials such as ceramics, silicon or glass possible and also achieves the best surface qualities. This benefits applications in the semiconductor industry, for example, where the ULTRASONIC MicroDrill micro-drilling spindle makes countless holes with a diameter of 0.1 mm in glass or ceramic components.

LASERTEC

From the filigreed debossing tool to the car dashboard, from the small helicopter turbine blade to the combustion chamber for large industrial gas turbines – the LASERTEC series from DMG MORI offers the right machine platform for every application. With 30 years of expertise, DMG MORI, as a CNC machine manufacturer, is considered a pioneer in laser processing. The LASERTEC Shape, LASERTEC PrecisionTool and LASERTEC PowerDrill constantly open up new potential for the production of technical surface structures, press dies, engravings, diamond tools, inscriptions, or holes. With LASERTEC machines, conventional machining methods such as erosion or grinding can be replaced by non-contact and thus wear-free machining.

Additive production

As a global full-liner with over 20 years of experience in the additive manufacturing of metallic components, DMG MORI is familiar with trends in this technology field, as well as the real requirements in future-oriented production. As a manufacturer of machine tools keenly attuned to the needs of small, medium-sized and large companies, DMG MORI focuses its innovative strength on the SLM (laser melting in the powder bed) and DED (application process by means of a powder jet) technologies, as well as hybrid processes that combine cutting and generative technologies. The goal is to sustainably optimize manufacturing processes additive manufacturing.

Grinding

Grinding is a conventional machining process that finishes previously turned or milled components with the highest accuracy and best surface finishes. With the acquisition of TAIYO KOKI over 20 years ago, DMG MORI possesses decades of experience in grinding technology. This experience forms the basis for an innovative range of machines in this segment. Vertical grinding machines for internal, external and surface grinding are just as much a part of DMG MORI’s portfolio as cylindrical grinding machines in different sizes. Their applications range from machining small, high-volume parts for the automotive industry to multiple machining of tool spindles.

Process integration and automated manufacturing

DMG MORI uses its many years of expertise in these technology areas to achieve ever more productive manufacturing solutions. This challenge requires holistic thinking across complete production processes. DMG MORI is increasingly combining several technologies in a single workspace. Through such process integration, workpieces such as turning, milling and grinding can be clamped together. This reduces throughput times and increases the quality of the challenging components, eliminating the manual re-stressing processes.

Users gain additional productivity through the use of flexible automation solutions. DMG MORI offers this in the form of workpiece handling, pallet handling and robot-supported products. These include the compact WH 3 Cell for automated production of large quantities in the small parts sector, the modular PH Cell models as individually configurable pallet handling and the Robo2Go family for flexible automation of small batch sizes on lathes and machining centers.

CNC tool machines: the most important things to know, in brief

How does a CNC machine work?

How does a CNC machine work?

Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) is a computer-aided machine control. CNC machines are able to machine workpieces with the highest precision according to a corresponding CNC program.

Where are CNC machines used?

Where are CNC machines used?

Medical technology, aerospace or tool and mold making – any production that mills, turns or grinds workpieces relies on CNC machines. Only these machines are able to produce complex geometries economically with the required accuracy.

What are the advantages of a CNC machine?

What are the advantages of a CNC machine?

The computer-aided control of a CNC machine is superior to manual control, because it works much more precisely and thus meets even the highest quality requirements. In addition, CNC machines enable very efficient and therefore economical production.
