Maximum productivity in horizontal machining

With its NHX 4000 3rd Generation DMG MORI will be presenting the consistent further development of a success model in horizontal machining of complex workpieces at the Innovation Days in Chicago

  • speedMASTER 20,000 rpm, 50HP spindle standard for machining every material type
  • Fastest time to full-rapid in product class with 1.2/ 1.2 / 1.2 g and chip-to-chip time as low as 2.2 seconds
  • Improved dynamic rigidity for best in class cutting performance and scales standard for industry-leading accuracy
  • Single-piece protectors, improved hydraulic unit, and roller guides for improved reliability
  • Automation-ready with fixture hydraulics, Zero Sludge Coolant Tank (coolant cyclone & tank stirring), Direct Drive rotary table & many high value features standard

The high-speed, high-precision horizontal machining centers in the NHX series have been impressing users for many years with their sturdy construction and outstanding dynamics. With its NHX 4000 3rd Generation, DMG MORI will be presenting a world premiere at the Innovation Days in Chicago that will continue this success story. A powerful speedMASTER motor spindle that has the highest acceleration rates in its class, plus CELOS with the proven FANUC NC control, ensures maximum productivity even in the standard version. In addition the NHX 4000 3rd Generation, built in Davis, California, is ideally equipped for ensuring flexible and economic production thanks to its extensive range of automation options.

The signature feature of the NHX series – its high level of rigidity – has been retained in this latest generation, because the sturdy construction is decisive for stable and high-quality machining. The X and Z-axis guides are arranged in such a way that they maximize rigidity of the bed, column and spindle. DMG MORI has increased the stability of the NHX 4000 3rd Generation even further primarily with dynamics in mind. Acceleration rates of 1.2 g in all axes and 60 m/min rapid traverses quantify the high overall performance of the horizontal machining center.

The speedMASTER motor spindle guarantees the high chip removal rate of the NHX 4000 3rd Generation. With a speed of 20,000 rpm, a power rating of 37 kW and a maximum torque of 163 ft-lbs it ranks among the best on the market. Added to this is a 36-month warranty that DMG MORI grants for all its own MASTER spindles – with no runtime limitation.

Hydraulic fixtures mean the NHX 4000 3rd Generation is easy to automate. It is equipped with a pallet changer when it leaves the factory, which moves the workpieces weighing anything up to 882 lbs. to the work area after setting up parallel to machining. Users achieve a higher level of productivity thanks to intelligent automation solutions. These range from a pallet-handling system with up to 21 stations for a stand-alone machine and 99 pallets in a linear pallet pool for several machines and on to include direct workpiece handling using a robotic system. The product range offers both experienced users and those entering automated production for the first time optimum and affordable manufacturing systems.

NHX 4000 3rd Generation, built in Davis, California, is ideally equipped for ensuring flexible and economic production thanks to its extensive range of automation options.

With 60 tool pockets the NHX 4000 3rd Generation offers a large magazine that meets the high demands on productivity. The cooling system of the horizontal machining center includes a coolant tank with a filter unit and spindle cooling. Direct path measuring systems from Magnescale, laser measuring probes and a sensor package that includes machine protection control round off the offer of the NHX 4000 3rd Generation options. DMG MORI also relies on the proven FANUC NC control, the intuitive control and operator interface CELOS for an integral digital process that encompasses job preparation and monitoring right through to documentation.

NHX production in Davis, California

The NHX series and the CMX universal machines are produced in Davis, California, about 90 minutes from San Francisco. With the support of its experienced experts DMG MORI develops individual production solutions there on an area of 221,000 ft². The automated production environment includes an NHX 10000, a DMC 340 U and numerous other models for the production of the various machine components. An advanced quality control that includes a 100-hour test of all machines and a spindle service round off the range of services at the American production facility.
